27 and Counting

I turn 27. Not a big, dramatic milestone — just…a regular Thursday with cake potential. There’s something nice about birthdays that aren’t fireworks. They’re little stops where you decide if you’re still going the same way or want to take a different turn. A big thing I learned: expectations are loud. I used to chase big, shiny milestones like they were trophies. Now I’m paying attention to the small stuff such as finishing a book, showing up when it’s awkward, saying no without apologizing for it. Those tiny things stack up and actually matter.

There were awkward social moments (of course), hard conversations, and the slow drift of friendships changing shape. Some things ended, some things just shifted. It sucked sometimes, but it also made space for better boundaries and fewer energy drains. Loss and disappointment happened too — they taught me to be a little kinder to myself. On the brighter side: 27 feels like permission to be particular about dinner plans and call it “intentional living.” I’ve vowed to try fewer life-hack lists and more real experiments. Cook more, keep a plant alive (or at least try harder), and take phone-free walks that don’t end in frantic scrolling.

A couple of small rituals saved me: writing down one tiny win each night (even if it’s just “didn’t burn the toast”) and scheduling one block of undisturbed work each day. Those two things made the messy middle of life feel less chaotic. Also, I officially retired the idea that being busy equals being important. Productivity is useful; exhaustion is not a badge.

If you’re reading this and you’ve stuck around through my posts, my memes, or my questionable hot takes: thank you. Really. Whether we’ve laughed, argued, or sat in silence, you helped shape who I am at 27. So here’s to another year of trying stuff, failing in clever ways, and celebrating the small wins. I’ll raise a drink (mug or glass, TBD) to the mundane, the messy, and the surprising.
